Unwavering political will, bold action
needed to counter high food prices –
President Jagdeo
His Excellency President Bharrat Jagdeo,
President of the Republic of Guyana, has
identified unwavering political will and
bold action as necessary steps for the
Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to counter the
current high prices of food.
In the editorial of the July edition of
the CARICOM View magazine, President
Jagdeo, who has lead responsibility for
Agriculture, Agricultural Diversification
and Food Security in the CARICOM Quasi
Cabinet, called for the “swift
implementation” of the Jagdeo Initiative on
Agriculture, which remained a critical
opportunity “to up the Region’s tempo on
food production”.
The July edition of the CARICOM View
magazine focuses of Food Security in
CARICOM. The magazine provides insight into
topics including the Community’s efforts
towards attaining food security, how it is
coping with praedial larceny, the future of
fisheries and a youth perspective on
agriculture.
