Press release 117/2003
(28 August 2003) MESSAGE TO THE GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF ST KITTS
AND NEVIS ON THE SUCCESS OF MR. KIM COLLINS IN WINNING THE 100 METRES EVENT AT
THE WORLD TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN PARIS

As Secretary-General
of the Caribbean Community, I wish to extend to the Government and People of St
Kitts and Nevis hearty congratulations on the success of one of its great sons,
Mr. Kim Collins in winning the 100 metres event at the World Track and Field
Championships in Paris, France. His
victory in the prestige event of the championships could not have come at a
better time as we celebrate the Thirtieth Anniversary of CARICOM and are right
now in the midst of the biggest people-centred event of the Community, the
Caribbean Festival of the Arts, CARIFESTA VIII, which was last hosted by St
Kitts and Nevis.
Mr.
Collins’ performance exemplifies the fact that despite our small size, our
countries can compete successfully with the rest of the world given the quality
of our human resources.
The
Caribbean Community shares your pride in this achievement and even more so, the
knowledge that through St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago our Region
occupied the two top places in the event.
