(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Fourteenth Consultations between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Japan will be held on 15 April 2010 at the CARICOM Secretariat Headquarters, Georgetown, Guyana. The CARICOM-Japan Consultations will provide a forum for dialogue on their bilateral cooperation as well as on various regional and global issues. The forum is critical to preparations for the Second CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting scheduled to be held later in the year. The Consultations will address preparations for the Ministerial Meeting and discuss an Agenda which may include issues of critical importance to the Community, such as the Global Financial Economic Crisis and Global Financial Security, the special treatment/position of Small Vulnerable Economies; Security, Collaboration on Assistance to Haiti and Disaster Management.

Under the New Framework for CARICOM-Japan Cooperation for the Twenty-First Century presented at the inaugural CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting in 2000, Japan provides technical assistance for projects funded under the Japan-CARICOM Friendship and Cooperation Fund (JCFCF). Among the areas the projects cover are tourism, environmental protection and energy.

The CARICOM /Japan Consultations will also review progress of the technical cooperation relationship and the JCFCF projects.
