TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO GENERAL ELECTION:  CARICOM ELECTORAL OBSERVER MISSION DUE THIS WEEKEND

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be fielding an Electoral Observer Mission in response to the request made of CARICOM by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to monitor the general elections of 5 November 2007

The Observer Mission led by Dr. the Hon. Sir Richard Cheltenham KA, QC, a national of Barbados, will comprise some twenty Observers designated by the Member States of the Community. The Observers, most of whom are either present or past senior officials of Electoral Commissions of Community Member States or veterans of election observation, will bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience.

The Chief of Mission and the advance group will arrive in country on 28 October 2007, and the remainder of the Mission on 31 October 2007.

The fielding of the CARICOM Electoral Observer Mission is a reflection of the importance that the Caribbean Community accords to good governance and democratic practice in its Member States.
