(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown,
Guyana) The CARICOM Competition Commission is
scheduled to facilitate a workshop on Competition
Policy for specific stakeholders in Guyana on 24-25
June 2010. This is part of the Commission’s mandate
to promote Competition Policy in CARICOM and
disseminate information about it.
The workshop is targeting the Guyanese Judiciary
and Commissioners of the newly appointed Guyana
Competition Commission. The workshop is facilitated
with the assistance of the 9th European Development
Fund (EDF) Caribbean Integration Support Programme (CISP).
Among the topics to be addressed are Dominance,
Monopoly Power and The Abuse of a Dominant Position.
These matters are of infinite importance not only to
Guyana but to every Member State participating in
the CARICOM Single Market.
The main presenter at the two-day workshop will
be Professor Alison Jones, Professor of Law at
King’s College London.
Professor Jones has conducted competition law
training for the UK Office of Fair Trading and the
Pakistan Competition Commission. She is a co-author
of Jones and Sufrin, EU Competition Law: Text Cases,
and Materials.
