STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE CARIBBEAN
COMMUNITY (CARICOM), HON. TILLMAN THOMAS, PRIME
MINISTER OF GRENADA, ON HONDURAS
The Caribbean Community welcomes
the signing of the Agreement for National
Reconciliation and Democratic Consolidation in the
Republic of Honduras between President Porfirio Lobo
of Honduras and that country’s former President
Manuel Zelaya in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia on 22
May 2011.
The Caribbean Community congratulates all the
parties and actors involved in brokering this
agreement which has led to the peaceful resolution
of this conflict and establishes the conditions for
the reintegration of Honduras into the Organization
of American States (OAS) and all its bodies.
The signing of this important agreement ushers in
a new chapter in the democratic process in Honduras.
The Caribbean Community looks forward to the
continued strengthening of democratic principles by
the Government of Honduras as enshrined in the
Inter-American Democratic Charter and to its future
participation in the OAS and its organs.
