(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown,
Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has joined
the international community in condemning the
terrorist attack perpetrated on Russia earlier this
week.
In a message of condolence to the Government of
the Russian Federation, through its Embassy in
Georgetown, Guyana, Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite,
CARICOM Secretary-General (ag) said that terrorism
as committed by the bombing at the Domodedovo
Airport in Moscow on 25 January 2011, was
“outrageous and unjustifiable.”
The Acting Secretary-General said that the
Community was in solidarity with the Government and
People of the Russian Federation and the Region
shared the pain and grief the country was
experiencing.
She expressed confidence in the county’s ability
to overcome these “trying times” with courage and
time.
The full text of the message reads as follows:
On behalf of the Caribbean Community
(CARICOM), I wish to express deepest condolences
to the Government and People of the Russian
Federation and, in particular, to the families
and loved ones of the thirty-five people who
lost their lives and the 180 persons who were
injured, following the bombing at the Domodedovo
Airport in Moscow on 25 January 2011.
The Caribbean Community joins the
international community in condemning such
outrageous and unjustifiable acts of terrorism
which continue to undermine the safety and
security of all.
The Caribbean Community expresses its
solidarity with the Government and People of the
Russian Federation during these moments of
national pain and grief, and is confident that
with courage and time, the people of Russia will
overcome these most trying times.
