(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen,
Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The July to September
edition of the on-line Publication, CARICOM View
focuses on Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases and
CARICOM’s untiring and aggressive response to these
“killer diseases.”
Titled, Let us Unite to
Fight Chronic –Non-Communicable Diseases,
the CARICOM View uses the flashback technique
to present a range of conversational - and in some
instances scholarly - voices to trace the journey
from the Historic Heads of Government Summit on NCDs
held in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on 15
September 2007 to the landmark United Nations High
level Meeting on Chronic NCDs held in New York on
19-20 September.
The editorial has been authored
by CARICOM Chairman and Prime Minister of St Kitts
and Nevis, the Hon. Dr Denzil Douglas who also has
responsibility for Human Resource Development,
Health and HIV AIDS in the Quasi Cabinet of the
Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean
Community. He underscored the socio-economic impact
of NCDs on Small Island Developing States , lauded
the efforts of CARICOM for having planted the issue
on the global agenda and challenged the Community to
continue the fight beyond the High Level Meeting.
