CARICOM EXTENDS CONDOLENCE TO GUYANA ON DEATH
OF FORMER FIRST LADY

Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
Secretary-General has extended condolences to the
people of Guyana on the passing of former First Lady
of Guyana, Mrs. Joyce Hoyte, wife of Former
President Hugh Desmond Hoyte.
In a message of condolence to the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guyana, CARICOM
Secretary-General Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite said
the former First Lady was “graciousness personified”
and a “tower of strength,” particularly in the face
of personal tragedies, as well as the resolute
support she gave her husband until they parted by
death.
The full text of the message reads:
“I wish on behalf of the staff of the CARICOM
Secretariat to extend deepest condolences to the
family of the deceased Mrs. Joyce Hoyte, wife of
former President Hugh Desmond Hoyte, as well as
to the people of Guyana, as they mourn the
passing of a former First Lady of the Republic
of Guyana.
Often described as “graciousness personified”
and “a tower of strength”, Mrs. Hoyte will be
remembered for her inner strength and fortitude
in the face of personal tragedies, as well as
the resolute support she gave to her husband
until they were parted by death.
Our prayers and thoughts are with the family
and relatives of Mrs Hoyte on this sad
occasion.”
