CARICOM EXTENDS CONDOLENCE TO GUYANA ON DEATH OF FORMER FIRST LADY

(CARICOM Secretariat, Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, Guyana) The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General has extended condolences to the people of Guyana on the passing of former First Lady of Guyana, Mrs. Joyce Hoyte, wife of Former President Hugh Desmond Hoyte.

In a message of condolence to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guyana, CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Lolita Applewhaite said the former First Lady was “graciousness personified” and a “tower of strength,” particularly in the face of personal tragedies, as well as the resolute support she gave her husband until they parted by death.

The full text of the message reads:

“I wish on behalf of the staff of the CARICOM Secretariat to extend deepest condolences to the family of the deceased Mrs. Joyce Hoyte, wife of former President Hugh Desmond Hoyte, as well as to the people of Guyana, as they mourn the passing of a former First Lady of the Republic of Guyana.

Often described as “graciousness personified” and “a tower of strength”, Mrs. Hoyte will be remembered for her inner strength and fortitude in the face of personal tragedies, as well as the resolute support she gave to her husband until they were parted by death.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the family and relatives of Mrs Hoyte on this sad occasion.”
