Programme overview and objectives
The Agribusiness Development Programme is a
sub-project within the larger Caribbean Integration
Support Programme (CISP), funded under the 9th
replenishment of the European Development Fund (EDF).
The CISP, which originally was intended to last for
three years (2008-2010)1, supports seven programme
components:
(i) A range of measures to implement the CSME
(ii) External trade negotiations carried out by
the CARIFORUM countries
(iii) Establishment and operation of the
Caribbean Information and Translation Institute,
to be located in Suriname
(iv) Improved and harmonized production of
economic statistical data at the regional and
national levels in CARICOM
(v) Development of the Caribbean Information and
Communication Strategy
(vi) Reduction of supply and demand for illegal
drugs
(vii) General support to the CARICOM Secretariat
The Agribusiness Development Programme falls within
Component 1 of the CISP and, within this context,
has as an overall goal of contributing to an
enhanced and coordinated framework for macroeconomic
and sectoral policy.
More specifically, the objectives of the
Agribusiness Development Programme are to:
(i) develop a strategic framework for
regional agribusiness development, which
includes action plans for targeted commodities;
and
(ii) promote training and dialogue among
national and regional policy makers and relevant
private sector stakeholders to advance the
agri-business/commodity development agenda.
