This a collaboration between the University of the
West Indies (Mona Campus), Jamaica and the Caribbean
Community (CARICOM) Secretariat to facilitate
informed perspectives by CARICOM nationals and the
international community on the policy implication of
positions taken by our major organs on a range of
regional development issues.
The Project to date has been very successful in fulfilling this mandate.
Several publications and intensive research projects have been conducted.
It should be noted that, apart from in-house publications and newsletters
produced by the various entities, within CARICOM, there was no comprehensive
publication highlighting the progress these organizations were making
in accomplishing their respective tasks.
From what was at first a simple and largely visionary initiative, the UWI-CARICOM
Project has been evolving into a powerful and critical vehicle for disseminating
information on the progress of the on-going integration of the Caribbean Community
during these crucial times and, by extension, an important agent in itself for
the furtherance of this process.
